Warwick Mills Partners With Bohle In Schwalbe Bike Tire Development
New Ipswich, NH, USA
Dated: April 3, 2008
High performance, lightweight bike tires with patented, high-density weave for incredible puncture
protection
Warwick Mills continues advanced fabric development for Schwalbe high-performance bike tires. Now
cyclists receive the highest level of puncture protection and performance without the need of a tire liner.
Combined with Bohle's innovative rubber compound, cyclists can expect unparalleled tire performance
from Warwick's super strong, patented weaving technology.
Warwick developed the densely woven material that is used in the High Density Guard puncture strip
integrated into the construction of the Schwalbe Ultremo (road), Marathon Supreme (touring), Marathon
XR (expedition), and Double Defense Racing Ralph and Nobby Nic (mountain bike) bicycle tires,
providing unparalleled puncture protection. The lightweight, flexible fibers are more tear-resistant than
titanium and more cut-resistant than aramid.
The 2007 release of Schwalbe's High Density Guard bike tires have set new standards in cycling circles:
lighter weight, better overall riding performance, and superior puncture resistance—three essential
characteristics often compromised when combined into one tire design. Stronger puncture protection allows
for an even lighter weight tire design: the Ultremo road racing competition tire weighs in at only 195 g
while offering outstanding rolling and durability performance.
Warwick is a global leader in the production of protective fabrics. The New Hampshire, USA, company helped
to develop the mission-critical airbag fabric used in three successful rover landings on Mars: Pathfinder,
Spirit and Opportunity. "There's no second chance when landing on Mars," explains Jenny Houston, Warwick's VP
of Business Development. "As an engineering company with roots in technical textile development, our focus on
the best materials and design strategies means there are no compromises from concept to development to production."
Warwick is an engineering leader in the materials science industry and specializes in the research and development
of new flexible composites for advanced solutions to the most challenging safety applications, including chemical
and biological protection and aerospace materials. Warwick is ISO 9001-2000 certified.
